Renting a Summer Houseboat - Young Hard Working Students

A simple summer houseboat
Are there any houseboats available for rent (or to buy) in the UK, for responsible young university students?
I am 17, and have another year of school left before going to university. I would like to move out of my house, and a friend of mine and I were planning on renting a flat.
However, since it's always been a dream of ours, we have since decided that for the summer period, we would love to live and work on a houseboat in our estuary, (the kingsbridge/salcombe estuary in Devon, UK) if it's a possibility.
We simply want to know what the cheapest price we can expect to find to rent a houseboat for the summer. It needs to be nothing fancy or special, just a houseboat which is not too untidy (we are happy to work on it).
We don't need an engine on it, since we don't plan on taking it out. If it's at all possible, we would consider buying a houseboat now, and fix it up, and sell it next season.
Hopefully someone will give some young hard working students a chance.
Thanks in advance, Jordan, Devon, UK.

AnswerWell Jordan, I can really understand how you feel, since I was brought up in the marine environment and it was my dad that gave me the opportunity.
As to any houseboats that are available to rent, or to buy inexpensively in the Devon UK area, I can't really say, since I'm on the other side of the ocean. But I know what's it's like to be 17 and willing to work to accomplish goals in life.
So with that in mind, I chose to post your question in the hopes that someone will reply who is willing to give hard working students a chance to prove themselves.
As an another option, you can always visit some of the marinas and canals where houseboats are moored to speak to some of the locals, and before you know it, you may find the house boat and opportunity that you're looking for. An old proverb,
"if you search, who knows what you'll find" Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about what's available, and their "young" houseboat stories & experiences.
