I am trying to find out what a 1989 Lazy Days houseboat from Sumerset is worth? The boat is 16x69 and is in great shape on the inside and outside. The boat comes with a front enclosure, bimini top, along with a party top.

Any help would be appreciated, Danny.

Well Danny, you have asked a very good question and I will do my best to answer you.

I will throw out a "ballpark figure" of anywhere between $129,000 to $189,000, however it is extremely hard to give an accurate price from across the internet. The ball-park figure is showing you the poor condition low-end pricing, and the immaculate high-end price spectrum.

Used boat pricing is a lot like used car pricing or real-estate prices. The supply and demand, location, boat maintenance, and even the quantity of remodeling play big factors in determining the asking price of older houseboats.

As I am sure you are aware, getting a qualified marine surveyor to go over the boat will also help in getting a realistic value AND condition of the boat.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers and visitors will share and post comments about their used Sumerset Lazy Days houseboat prices, experiences, and any tips.

Thanks again for sharing, IAN from all-about-houseboats

Houseboat prices
by: florida man

Banks rarely lend money on a boat over 20 years without a kidney as collateral. Also the economic times aren't helping either in the South East.

You can find a pre 1990 houseboat in decent shape from 23 to 70 thousand however the lower end priced boats will need plenty of TLC, and the upper-end priced boats will be pristine.

As an owner, expect to have to short term finance to get the most for your boat.

Age of a houseboat
by: Anonymous

The boats age has one other factor to consider. The financing is harder to get with older boats, over 10 years old. Survey, sea trial and haul out are all important... Good luck.
