My houseboat has a Westerbeke generator, I need some advice?

Westerbeke is a popular generator on houseboats
I have a 12.5 Westerbeke generator and there is no exhaust coming out the exhaust port. It is coming out of the water exit port.
Also it works fine under medium load but when the heat pump tries to kick on, it will not have enough power to let it and takes several tries to kick on.
Something simple? I was thinking the water separator could be the problem?
Any clues would be greatly appreciated, Tom.

Hello Tom, thanks for posting in the houseboat forums.
You unfortunately didn't mention if the generator was a gasoline or diesel model, so it is hard to say. If I was to take an educated guess, I would say that you may have something blocking the exhaust port, thus causing your problem.
We do have some very qualified marine mechanics visiting our website, so surely one of them will chime in and pinpoint the possible issue.
Lastly, hopefully some of our readers and visitors will share and post comments about their marine generator related houseboat experiences and tips.
