Maximum size motor or horsepower on a pontoon boat?
An older Harris pontoon boat with a 50 hp engine.
What's the maximum size of motor or horsepower that goes on a pontoon boat. I have an older pontoon boat and the capacity plate is missing.
Can anyone tell me what the maximum size motor, or maximum horsepower that I can put on a 28 foot 1968 Harris pontoon boat.
Thanks, any help is appreciated.

From my own personal experience with pontoon boats, I find that the older pontoons would typically have 25-50 hp engines, and occasionally a 75hp on them.
In retrospect, I find that the newer 28 ft pontoon boats seem to be coming with 90-115-150 hp engines on the back. With that kind of horsepower, they must fly :)
Again, for specific information or details, I'm sure the manufacturer will be a good start.
Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their pontoon boat experiences. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.
Thanks again for sharing, IAN from all-about-houseboats
