Is Stardust houseboats, same as Stardust Cruiser house boats?

We're looking at Stardust houseboats, and wondering if they are the same as Stardust Cruiser house boats?

Our budget can't let us get a newer boat, but we like the Stardust Cruiser models, especially since we can afford one.

Is there anything we should know before investing our money in an older house boat like a Stardust?

We really love this site, it's full of great articles. Susan

Well Susan, welcome to the houseboat forums, and congratulations on your decision to buy a Stardust houseboat, or a Stardust Cruiser.

You asked if there was anything you should know before investing your money in an older houseboat. I am glad you asked.

You want to make sure that any purchase is conditional on a satisfactory marine survey. Have a mechanic verify the electrical and mechanical systems beforehand. Check the condition of the roof and decks.

You may want to make sure that any steel hulled houseboats get fully inspected and are in good condition. You don't want to be stuck paying for re-plating the steel hull.

There's a good article for newbie houseboat buyers that may interest you.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their experiences with Stardust Cruiser houseboats. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.

we had a 42 foot Stardust when I was a kid. Dunno what it weighed - it was steel hull outboard. They delivered tham back them on a custom trailer hauled by F-100 pickups with automatics and 6 cyl engines.

Proper way to haul a houseboat
by: Cissy

Proper way to haul a houseboat. Considering buying a 1997 Stardust aluminum hull 14 x 50.

I know it has a single four-cylinder engine and it’s not a widebody, it has the cat walks.

I’m kind a looking for information on the weight of the trailer that is needed to haul this is.

Weight and trailer type for Stardust houseboats
by: Anonymous

Anyone know the weight of a 11x40 Stardust houseboat with steel hulls? What type of trailer it would take to haul it? I cannot find any information on these boats via internet.

Stardust Cruiser owner
by: Renee

Hi Susan, I purchased my Stardust Cruiser 4 months ago. I've been staying in the boat during the renovation process! It's fun fun....but then, again I like this type of thing.

I have a 76 steel hull, that had already had steel hull work completes. It needed to be gutted and renovated. My first priority BEFORE purchasing was to ensure that a marina would take my boat.

THEN I made sure that I could get insurance. YES, insurance no problem if it passed inspection - which of course it did. So began my journey into Stardust Cruisers.

She was an ugly duckling, but is becoming a swan! I love my boat...even all the idiosyncrasies that come with her. Get an electrical inspection for older boats!

Id love to post BEFORE AND AFTER pictures, but I do not believe there is that capability here. Best of luck with your purchase.
