The Trent Severn Waterway is amazing for Houseboats

Not so much a funny story, but definitely one of the most memorable houseboat vacations my family has ever taken.

We spent an amazing two weeks on a houseboat on the beautiful Trent Severn Waterways and went through I think about 13 locks, the biggest and coolest was the HUGE Peterborough Lock. That was an incredible "ride" and experience.

Life on the houseboat was very comfortable and it was great to have everything you would need right there. Front porch with grill, sun deck, sliding board to swim off of. Just great.

We would just run up right on small islands and spend the day or the night. One very small island we stayed on was full of muskrats and they were so much fun to watch!!

My sons were 14 and 11 at the time and had the time of their lives. 24/7 fishing!

Anyway, houseboating is a wonderful way to see the waterways and explore, and I would highly recommend the waterways in Canada, BEAUTIFUL!!

Just my thoughts, Nancy.

Well Nancy, thanks for painting a beautiful picture with words about houseboating. You're right about houseboats being an excellent way to explore the country.

If I was to make a recommendation to people who haven't had a chance to experience houseboat vacations or cruising, it would be to look at some excellent new dvd's on vacationing or cruising aboard a houseboat.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their houseboat rental vacation experiences.

Reminds me
by: beached guy

Tongue in cheek comment.
Some of the things we saw in the locks of the Trent Severn involving rental houseboats, and others as well, reminded me of books I read as a youngster when skippers of windjammers would call "All Hands on Deck" to save the ship.

Very funny to see a houseboat sideways in a lock unless you happen to be part of the boats crew or your own is in danger of getting rammed.

Wheelchair accessible houseboats
by: Martha

I rented an wheelchair accessible houseboat 20 years ago. I cannot find ANY for rent on your site. It had a huge bathroom, roll in shower, elevator to the top deck. Anyone have any knowledge about this topic? I wonder, "where did those boats go?" Thanks
