Houseboat Options - Timeshare vs Shared Ownership vs Rentals?

Houseboat Timeshares - Shared Ownership - Holiday Rentals
Looking at houseboat holiday rentals, and various options now exist. What's better, timeshares, shared ownership, or simple holiday rentals?
My family and my friend's family have shared a houseboat vacation rental for the past three years. We all really enjoy it and this year in trying to book reservations I came across the option of Shared Ownership.
We have gone to Lake Mohave each year, and since we are going in spring I really would want to stay there. The water is cold enough that time of year. I couldn't imagine anything colder.
My questions are: Do you suggest Houseboat Timeshares?
Do you suggest Shared Ownership?
Is my liability limited with these options?
Where would I find out about these deals?
Is there such a thing as private rentals?
I searched Google and only found three boats, all at Lake Powell.
Any other location suggestions that would be similarly warm?
Thanks, Bob O.
