Houseboat Holidays Australia - Murray River houseboats

Some houseboats at Echuca Wharf, Murray River, Australia
When it comes to houseboat holidays in Australia, you have to look at Murray River houseboats, as the northern winter season brings the southern summer season for us Australians.
The first weekend in October heralds the start of the summer boating season in South Australia with the introduction of daylight saving.
This is a long weekend in South Australia, but rather than taking out the boat amid the rush to get back on the river, we went to Echuca which claims to have the largest true paddle steamer fleet in the world. http://www.portofechuca.org.au/
As usual, we will spend the Christmas/New Year period on the houseboat which is usually fairly quiet. Probably because families spend time together over this period.
Here is another link to a club cruise last summer that will give you some indication of what boating on the Murray is like - although we don't normally descend on the local townships in such a large pack. http://www.rmboa.org.au/2009%20Ramble/index.html
Thanks, Mark from South Australia
Reply - AnswerWell Mark, it sounds like Australians know how to spend good times out on the water also, and I am glad to hear that you get to spend the holidays out on the boat :)
