Any Florida Keys houseboats for sale, or for rent?

Wondering if there's any Florida Keys houseboat for sale, or for rent, as we're tired of spending winters in the cold. We would be interested in buying a used houseboat, or even consider a long term rental.

We're a couple who have been boating most of our lives (smaller boats mind you) and we feel that a houseboat retirement lifestyle could be the perfect way to spend our days.

Our budget for a good used boat could go from 50 to 150,000 dollars depending on size, year, and equipment. We would prefer a fiberglass or aluminum hull, flybridge, and with twin engines.

Where are some good areas to start looking for a good deal on a houseboat, or where to try and find a yearly houseboat rental.

Looking forward to any replies, John and Joanne.

Well John and Joanne, congratulations on your decision to rent or buy a houseboat, especially in the Florida Keys.

Florida is a popular area, especially the Keys, as there is plenty going on, and the weather is ideal for folks that love boating.

Because of the market, the well priced used boats that are for sale tend to go quickly, but you can often find what your looking for.

Hi John & Joanne, I have two houseboats for sale. My husband and I loved them! Fixed them up. Too many changes in life are requiring me to sell. I am just today getting them onto the various websites for selling. I am located in the upper Keys.

Holiday Mansion Aft Cabin Coastal Barracuda
by: Anne Baxter

Hi John and Joanne,
I am selling my 38 LOA Holiday Mansion which is already located in the Florida Keys. It has a working Volvo diesel and is ready to cruise. Check out the listing on this web site and also on Craig's List. Then call me to make an appointment to see it before it is sold.

I have been a charter boat captain here in the Keys for 30 years and ran a different houseboat for eco tour charters here in the Keys for 10 years. Cruising the Keys via houseboat is the only way to go!

Houseboat for sale or rent
by: JonAnonymous

I have a 100' Sumerset houseboat that I use as a vacation rental property. Lately I've been getting very busy with my other business and have considered either selling my boat or having a rental management company take over managing the rentals.

Maybe if you are still interested, something could be structured to work for both our needs. It's located in Ft. Myers Beach. We've taken it to the Keys several times and could even deliver it where ever you like.

I'm always looking for an opportunity to make a trip on the boat.

For better exposure and if you are serious about selling it, you should advertise it here in our Classifieds section. There's 1/2 million yearly houseboat visitors, so they sell quickly.

Florida houseboat for sale or long-term rental lease.
by: Russell

I have a 57 foot Carri-Craft houseboat, 1969 vintage, in south Florida and I am considering selling. Long term rental is not out of the question but could be very expensive. Between payments, dockage, insurance, upkeep and all the things that go with owning a boat and having to maintain it with someone else living on it, the expense could be prohibitive. At least to me it would be.

The boat is in North Fort Myers, southwest Florida, but I can take it to the Keys, it is a running boat, and get it on a mooring or anchored out. I find that the marina's are a bit high priced but if you are willing to go the price of a slip then by all means I will put it in a marina. Remember, this boat is 57 feet long and 15 feet wide and they charge by the foot for dockage.

If you have any ideas on long term rental just run it by me and we'll see if something can be worked out. Personally, I would rather buy than rent. Rental money is just gone and usually three or four years rental would have paid for the boat anyhow.

We have lived aboard for about 18 months or so but the wife and I are likely splitting up and I can not afford to keep the boat, house, truck and still pay all the bills and other expenses so I am considering selling the boat and house.

The boat needs some cosmetics but is in good running condition and is very solid at this time. Things do keep wearing out and breaking but that is what a boat is. Constant work or it will get away from you and get very expensive to get back in shape. It has everything you have in your house plus a directional self aligning TV/satilite antena that follows the signal so you always have TV even when out on the hook or running to another adventure. It also has two TV stations, one in the living room and one in the master stateroom.

It has a new fridge, new freezer, twin forward staterooms, can sleep up to 10 if necessary, twin bathrooms with showers, vanities and the main head also has a bath tub. It has an older but working 48 mile radar. I installed a new folding swim platform that raises up against the stern when traveling or anchored so the waves don't slap it and wake you at night.

It also has a full walk around gunnel with handrails and a very large upper deck with a grill for cooking topside or just lazing about in the sun. Ground tackle includes 3 60# anchors with all the chain and line you will ever need.

I also rigged a hand cranked anchor hoist for breaking the anchor loose and lifting it to the deck. This is a real back saver if the anchor gets stuck in mud. A 60 pound anchor with near 100 pounds of chain is very heavy if you have to pull it by hand. This rig avoids that. My 65 year old back really likes it.

You can find my ad on the Houseboat Classifieds here, and email me and I'll send pictures and we can discuss whether or not this would suit you. Thanks, Russell.

Houseboat Living in the Florida Keys
by: Anonymous

Well, I live in Florida and have traveled to the Keys on several occasions. I have not noticed any rentals for houseboats. The nearest is Fort Myers. Long term rentals can be had there, but I can't see spending all your cash, and not owning it.

Check out houseboats for sale from the Lake Cumberland area of Tenn. $150,000.00 can get you a beautiful boat. Have it shipped to the Keys buy trailer or water, and enjoy it in the keys. Bill
