Dreaming of Living on a Houseboat in New York.

I have always dreamed of living on a houseboat, and now I feel I can make it real. I want to stay on Long Island, NY,


My problem is that many of the marinas and townships do not allow year round houseboat living. And I do not know much about buying one, but I am doing the research now. Any suggestions?

Well Judy, I guess I could say that I know how you feel about always dreaming about living on a house boat. It's one of the best decision I have ever made, "Life is Short".

Now getting back to "year round houseboat living". You may have to go and spend some time around some of the marinas in the area, and speak to some of the locals. You may find that there is some small loopholes or ways to "work around" certain conditions or regulations.

We bought our houseboat barge this year. We love it.

Try Freeport, LI. There are a few houseboats living year round located just west of the meadowbrook prkwy. It is in the industrial section. I was told it cost $100 per foot, per year.

I am at that age apparently, 60, and single. I am a kiwi ( New Zealand) and have decided I would like to build and live year round on a houseboat.

The area I live in has rivers, lakes that I can "migrate" to with no rent, rates, fees, etc etc.

Also love all the stories. Ian, can I get hold of plans for, I think, a 20ft Haven. I used to have the book many years ago.
